How We Work
(together)
Our job is to make sure that everything we do - from websites to social media campaigns - serves your brand and gets you noticed. We know that the difference between awesome and mediocre digital marketing is the result of hundreds of decisions. We help you make the right ones by sharing our knowledge and providing some guidance. We get to know you, your audience and your goals, so we can help you determine what your online presence does and doesn't need.
Listen
We begin with questions. We listen as you tell us about the work you do, the people you do it for and who else does stuff like it. We do our own leg work to learn about your customers and competitors, so we can help you position your brand. We look at everything you currently have in your digital and print marketing arsenal and help you make sure it is actually serving you and your brand.

- Competitive Review
Plan
You have goals. Our job is to help you achieve them. Together, we map out your goals - what your customers need to experience and what you hope to get from them as a result. We make a plan and define what's in and out, what will and won't serve your goals, technically and creatively. We create a blueprint and build the foundation for the project to come.
- Project Charter
- User Personas
- Site Map
- Wireframes
- Website Analytics Review
Create
Building on what we discovered in the first two steps, we create unique designs for your homepages, subpages, mobile applications, games and more. We present our designs using compo.st - a tool we developed to make sure our designs match what you're looking for, and that you can quickly and easily communicate what needs to change so the design is all you envisioned.
- Homepage Comps
- Subpage Comps
- Additional Comps as required for various modules
- Functionality, etc.
Build
This is where our developers step in. They apply their range of technical know-how to your website or application. They look at all of the functionality you currently have and want to recreate, as well as new stuff that you think will help you better engage with your target audience and demonstrate what your brand's all about.
Explore
This is your chance to start playing with the finished product. First, we make sure you have all the training you need to get in the driver's seat. Once we put your site in your hands, you have time to interact with your site, load some content and try out all of the functionality that you asked for in preparation for the launch.
- Training
- Content Entry
Launch
This is your website, your Facebook page, your mobile app, all of the above or something different. This is the face you show to your world. If we've done our job, it is all that you desired back in the "listen" and "plan" phases. Now is when you get to show it off and see how well it's speaking to the people it's intended for.
- Launch Management
- Client Feedback
Support
Our job isn't done when we hand over the keys to your shiny new website or people start using your new app on their mobile devices. We know that stuff happens, training is forgotten and questions arise as you switch your digital marketing strategy into high gear. That's why we stay available to you in the short term after launch, and offer plans for longer term support.
- 60-day Warranty
- Service Level Agreements to ensure that your site stays current with technology
- Web Analytics reviews to keep you in the loop with how your site is working
- Ongoing suggestions for improvements based on analytics review

And the Winner Is...
For anyone who missed the announcement, we're excited to present our first annual CW2 winner, with over 8,000 votes: Stratford House of Blessing!
This community organization has been dedicated to helping people who need it since 1983. Stratford House of Blessing offers a range of services to the community, including: giving of goods (food, clothing, furniture), the Home with a Heart program, thINK FOOD and Phones for FOOD, Cooking on a Budget, and various other supports.
With all this organization does for its community, we're very proud to be doing our part to help the Stratford House of Blessing. We look forward to creating a website that will help this amazing organization to attract more donors and volunteers, and reach more people in need.
But Wait, There's More...
Stratford House of Blessing was a clear winner in terms of total votes, but not the only charity that had a strong community dedicated to helping it win. We wanted to recognize the efforts these other organizations and their supporters put into the CW2 contest with more than just words.
So what are we doing? We're offering $15,000 of our 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget to website/digital marketing work for CanTRA, and $5,000 to Bruce House. Give these two great organizations a round of applause — they earned it!
The Bieber Effect
All it took was a tweet.
Granted, it was a tweet by Justin Bieber's mom, Pattie Mallette, which was then retweeted by the pop star and countless Beliebers, but that one tweet changed the face of this competition.
It led to unmatched visibility of the Stratford House of Blessing in this contest, which ultimately resulted in this charity receiving nearly twice as many votes as the second place finisher. It also resulted in traffic on our site the likes of which we'd never seen. Now, THAT's impressive!
A First Time for Everything
Wow, this contest sure has been a whirlwind! We can't believe it's over, and we're a bit sad it's coming to an end. It was a lot of fun for our team—we got to play with our website, watch the results each day, promote it through social media (and see how the competitors and their supporters were doing the same) and have our story shared by some organizations we really respect and admire.
Most of all, though, this contest was a huge learning experience. What did we learn? Well, some of it's not news, and some of it is, but here are a few takeaways we got from the campaign:
We Couldn't Have Done It Without You
Seriously. There were so many amazing charities entered in CW2 that there's no way we could have selected just one to win. In fact, as we mentioned, we STILL couldn't pick just one even after the votes were in.
Word Gets Around
We are in the business of digital marketing, so our primary means of promoting CW2 was through Twitter and Facebook. It was how community members rallied behind their charities of choice, and we made it easy for them to do so with simple sharing buttons on the voting site. It was also how a traditional media outlet, GlobalTV Calgary, and an online publication, Canada.com, caught wind of our story and turned into a feature.
The Human Touch Matters
While we mostly promoted CW2 on the web, we contacted each nominee directly for a couple of reasons. First, we know that social media can be a great first step to building a connection, but it's just that, and real conversations are still important. Second, CW2 is a bit tongue-in-cheek, and we knew not every nominee would jump for joy at the thought of competing for this particular title, so we checked. The good news is that about half of the charities we actually spoke with were on-board—they recognized both the humour and the need for a website refresh.
It Pays to Ask
Rather than sending a press release through a newswire service, we contacted a few organizations that we really respect and admire, and we told them the plan. Not only did we build some great new connections this way, but we also got a couple of them to feature our ideas on their sites. We're looking at you, Charity Village and Realized Worth.
Our Community Rocks
A local non-profit in London, TechAlliance, thought CW2 was a great idea and wanted to help us promote it. They put together a short promo video to help spread the word. Our contest partners also got involved, giving up some space on their blogs to spread the word. Check out posts from ATMOS Marketing, Harrison Pensa LLP and Orpheum Hosting Solutions.
Now What?
Now it's time for us—and our contest partners—to get to work. Over the next few months, we'll be meeting with the good people at Stratford House of Blessing to talk about the changes we're going to make to their site. You can stay tuned for updates on our website, and see what our community partners (ATMOS Marketing, RedCat Film, Orpheum Hosting Solutions and Harrison Pensa LLP) have to say about the project as it unfolds.
We're also excited to confirm that this is the first of many CW2 contests, and we plan to make this an annual thing. Follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, or sign up for our newsletter to see updates on what we're doing and to make sure you—and a charity you love—don't miss out next year.
