Las Chicas del Café is a family-owned roastery founded by sisters Maria Fiallos and Valeria Fiallos-Soliman in 2005. Rooted in four generations of coffee farming in Las Sabanas, Nicaragua, the business brings their heritage to St. Thomas, Ontario, where they roast and package coffee with the same care and craftsmanship their family has practiced for decades. From hand-picking cherries to perfecting roast profiles, their coffee is a living testament to tradition, passion, and artistry.

Challenge

Having previously partnered with Las Chicas del Café on the redesign of their website, we were excited to get to work on telling their story through video as they celebrated their 20th anniversary. The goal was to go beyond a simple retrospective and craft a piece that honoured their late father, whose legacy remains central to the business.

The challenge was to create a video that not only marked a milestone but also captured the emotional depth of their journey, balancing celebration with remembrance while connecting with their community on a personal level.

Approach

rTraction’s video production team spent a full day on site to immerse ourselves in the Las Chicas del Café story:

  • Interviews: We conducted two in-depth interviews with the owners, creating space for emotional storytelling and reflection on their father’s role in shaping their business.

  • On-location Filming: B-roll captured their roasting process, workspace, and daily operations to visually ground the story in their craft.

  • Compassionate Storytelling: Recognizing the emotional weight of the subject, our team approached the interviews with patience and empathy, ensuring the family felt comfortable sharing personal memories.

Deliverables

  • Feature Video: A longer “About Us” piece for their website, blending interviews, process footage, and the story of their family legacy.

  • Teasers: Short teaser videos in both portrait and landscape formats, designed for social media and optimized to drive traffic back to their website.

Outcome

The final videos not only marked a milestone anniversary but also served as a touching tribute to the family’s father. The project connected deeply with their community, strengthening the brand’s story by showing the people, passion, and legacy behind every cup of coffee.

Through a combination of technical expertise and compassionate storytelling, rTraction helped Las Chicas del Café share not just their product, but their heart.
