It's no secret that we are in the midst of a housing and cost-of-living crisis. The price of mortgages and rents have gone up significantly post-2020. One positive from this experience? Creative thinking around housing initiatives and more opportunities to think outside the box about housing, especially for small towns.

The Town of St. Marys wanted to develop an informational video series about their Attainable Housing Action Plan. Showcasing the people and the stories behind Accessory Dwelling Units, New Apartment Complexes, Duplexes, Garage Conversions, and more; all happening right in the heart of small town St. Marys.

We at rTraction helped by developing a series of short-form videos for social media and long-form videos.

By formulating a series of questions for each interview, and by focusing on telling these personal stories with an emphasis on how these creative housing solutions are impacting individuals, families, and developers in St. Marys.

The process involved spending a number of days on location shooting videos to be edited together showcasing how this housing action plan is already supporting and changing lives.

The results? A positive showing of community support when the videos were posted to the town's socials, with a combined total of 36.6K views on Facebook alone. That's amazing considering the population of St. Marys is currently sitting at 7,386 (2021 Census).

We are so proud of the Town of St. Marys Attainable Housing Video series being featured in the St. Marys Independent on February 12, 2026.
