An updated website with roots that started a decade ago.

What is the Million Tree Challenge?

“London's Million Tree Challenge is a call to action to the entire community to come together to plant one million new trees in the Forest City for improved environmental and human health. Founded in 2011 by the City of London and ReForest London, there is a need for the Million Tree Challenge because London's current urban leaf cover falls below standards necessary for a healthy community and robust infrastructure.”

- About The Million Tree Challenge

What was the Project?

In 2011, we launched the first version of the MillionTrees.ca website. The original site, which was a Webby Award Honoree, served the organization well for over a decade and it was time for an update.

For the 2021 version of the site, we migrated the site from a custom codebase to a Drupal Content Management system. The team at ReForest London wanted the ability to manage the site easier and Drupal delivers that ability quite effectively. One of the main features of the site is that planters have the ability to register their tree plantings which is then tracked on the leaderboard for all to see. As planters record their numbers for all to see, the race continues to see who can be the top planter for the region.

Along with an updated design, came numerous performance improvements to things like the Leaderboard as well as a responsive website so the site looks and performs great across all devices.
